Toast runs the kitchen.
Shopify runs the store.
Nothing kept them in sync.
A product we built and now offer: a real-time sync between the Toast restaurant POS and a Shopify store. The whole menu — items, prices, modifiers, categories and, crucially, the photos — flows into Shopify automatically and stays up to date.
Restaurants run their menu in Toast and want to sell online through Shopify, but there is no proper native bridge between them. Photos don’t carry over, sold-out items keep selling online, and staff end up re-entering the same menu twice. We set out to make the two systems behave like one.

Toast’s built-in exports tend to drop item images on the way to other platforms. Our dedicated image pipeline gets every menu photo onto the matching Shopify product.

When the kitchen marks something sold out in Toast, the product is hidden on Shopify in seconds — no overselling and no awkward refunds.
Update the menu once.
Prices, descriptions, modifiers and categories flow across automatically, so staff maintain the menu in Toast and the store keeps itself current.

Multi-location support, per-menu control and clear logs mean the same engine can be rolled out to the next restaurant, not rebuilt each time.

One source of truth,
synced both ways.
We built a sync engine on top of the Toast and Shopify APIs: smart field mapping, a dedicated image pipeline so menu photos actually transfer, real-time webhooks backed by safety polling, and conflict and retry rules. When the kitchen 86s an item in Toast, it is hidden on Shopify within seconds; when a price or photo changes, the store updates itself.
What we delivered
A running product with a live dashboard, per-location and per-menu control, and clear activity logs — reliable enough to resell to the next restaurant. It removes double entry, keeps online availability honest, and finally gets every menu photo onto the store.
